JAT Holdings Pioneers Inclusive Skills Development in the Paint and Coatings Sector

JAT Holdings Pioneers Inclusive Skills Development in the Paint and Coatings Sector
2025-07-16

In a landmark initiative for Sri Lanka’s paint and coatings industry, JAT Holdings PLC, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Central Federation of the Deaf, successfully conducted a specialised technical training programme designed to empower painters with hearing-impairments, and promote greater inclusivity within the sector.

Many of the participants had entered the profession by observing others on site, without the benefit of formal instruction or access to industry best practices. Recognising this gap, JAT Holdings became the first private sector organisation in Sri Lanka to provide a specialised programme with structured, hands-on training with a focus on both painting and wood coating techniques.

A total of 13 individuals completed the programme and were formally recognised at a certificate awarding ceremony held on 4th July 2025. The event was attended by senior management of JAT Holdings and members of the Executive Board of the Sri Lanka Central Federation of the Deaf, marking a moment of shared pride and progress.

The day also featured an open discussion forum, where participants candidly shared their personal and professional experiences within the industry. This platform allowed for a deeper understanding of the barriers they face and led to several key takeaways and action points aimed at enhancing accessibility, safety, and opportunity in their working environments.

By creating opportunities for underrepresented communities and recognising skill beyond conventional frameworks, JAT strives to shape a more inclusive, equitable future for the paint and coatings industry in Sri Lanka.
